A Different kind of Diamond

Entrelac

Maybe you’re up for the challenge and ready to try this style of knitting?  Even if you’re not, it’s not everyday you can take a class from Rosemary Drysdale, knitting editor for VOGUEknitting.  We’ll be offering this VOGUEknitting sponsored class on Entrelac knitting, a knitting technique that creates a diamond pattern.  As a non-knitter, this looks very challenging.  I can’t imagine being able to create something like this with my own two hands.  You do need to already know how to knit, purl, pick up stitches and increase and decrease. Do you think it’s possible for me to learn all that before September so I can take her class?  I think I’ll do her and the students a favor and just peek in to see the magic happen.

The Crafty Chica!

You know when you meet someone and you instantly feel a connection?  Like they are your kind of people? That’s the way I felt last year when I listened to Kathy Cano-Murillo, The Crafty Chica speak at THE CREATIVE CONNECTION.  And judging from the line of people waiting to speak to her afterwards, many others felt the same way. She captivated everyone with her zest for life and warm personality.  I knew right then that I could be her new best friend.

The art she creates is all Kathy.  It’s colorful, bold and full of energy! She LOVES glitter!  We are so excited she’ll be teaching for us again this September.  Wouldn’t you LOVE to take a class from Kathy?  You can!  She’ll be teaching:

Crafty Chica Jewelry: Muy Mexicana Faux-Glass Pendants and Sculpted Leather Rings

and

Online Workshops 101: How to Create and Teach in Your Own Cyber Classroom

Visit Kathy’s website to learn more about the Crafty Chica style, and all the books she’s written. She even created her own line of art supplies.  I think she’s amazing and I think you will too.

Like Mother, like Daughter

Last year while attending THE CREATIVE CONNECTION, I dropped in on a class that Debbie and Shea were teaching and was instantly in love with their style. Romantic, feminine and nostalgic. This beautiful mother daughter team will have you making some of the most beautiful, and the most dreamiest jewelry in both of their classesIf you receive our publications, then you may recognize them from our Spring 2011 issue. It’s classes like Shea and Debbie’s that make THE CREATIVE CONNECTION such a popular conference. Have you registered yet?

Lisa Leonard Giveaway!

The winner for the Matthew Mead Bundle is Carlanda

Every Wednesday we’re having a giveaway from one of our speakers, teachers or vendors. This week we are giving away two $50 gift certificates! 2 Winners! Each one will receive one $50 gift certificate from Lisa Leonard.
In the blog world, EVERYONE knows Lisa. I have the pleasure of calling her my friend. We met last April and she’s one of the warmest, most kind and calming human beings you’ll ever meet. Last year she spoke on one of our panels and this year we are lucky enough that she’ll be teaching a class, Jewelry Making Basics.

I truly believe Lisa’s Jewelry business has boomed because of who she is.  You can find stamped jewelry anywhere, but a Lisa Leonard stamped piece is special. When people buy a Lisa Leonard design, we are getting more than a piece of jewelry, we’re hoping to get a bit of Lisa’s inspiration. Although I also think she is brilliant at staying ahead of the market with her originality and design.  I personally own 6 or 7 of her pieces and I cannot tell you the emotional attachment I have to them.

To learn more about Lisa, she has a wonderful blog where she shares a bit of her life, her dreams, her thoughts.  She also has her online shop.

To enter, please leave us a comment.  We’ll choose a winner next Tuesday, July 5th after the giveaway closes at 5pm, pacific time.

Do you Tweet?  Or use Facebook?  Tweet or facebook about the giveaway, then come back and tell us. Extra entries for FB or Twitter mentions.  Please use hashtag #TCCE11 on any tweets.

Creative Passion

Have you entered our Matthew Mead Giveaway Bundle?

THE CREATIVE CONNECTION is only a few months away!  I’m having a hard time narrowing my class list down to what I want to peek into.  I know I want to meet as many of our amazing teachers as possible.  Where else will I ever be around so many creative people all in the same place?  I’ll have to just sit in the corner and absorb all the creative energy hoping to somehow absorb a bit of talent from each teacher and all our participants.

StevenBe–  Just looking at his photo tells me he’s VERY creative.  He looks like he’s full of passion, enjoys life and explores his craft.  He’ll be teaching Enter a Knitter, Exit a Fiber Artist: From Craft to Art. There will be no rules and no mistakes as you explore a new territory with fiber techniques.  I was thrilled to learn more about StevenBe.  I learned that he just opened the Yarn Garage Workshop.

“The 6,000 square foot former fire station in South Minneapolis will showcase Steven’s personal collection of antiques and objets d’artes from around in the world within a grander yet more personal milieu. Steven envisions his new venture as an elegant, grown up version of Andy Warhol’s Factory – that infamous incubator of all things pop – without the drugs and alcohol. Instead StephenBe will be the place where gorgeous design, innovative programming and personalized service will inspire the next wave in needle arts.”

Sounds amazing doesn’t it?

While looking around his site, I was touched by this video from the holidays!  I can’t wait to meet him.

Have you registered yet? Just think…….you could meet StevenBe! Better yet, you could take his class.
