Create your own piece of wearable art and learn my techniques for working with metal and found objects as you go! You’ll use a silver-plated spoon or fork for the base of your necklace. Get out your frustrations as you crush, pound, and bend each utensil into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry you will cherish for years to come!
Students should bring to class:
• A few silver-plated spoons and/or forks
• Small vintage black-and-white photographs and/or tintypes
• Old books or pages from old books containing inspiring words and black-and-white illustrations (I love ones from the turn of the last century)
• Small metal piece that can function as a frame (such as a buckle, scrapbooking metal frame, pin, or brooch)
• Metal or plastic baubles (to be drilled and added to the bottom of the piece as a dangle; I love keys, game pieces, costume jewelry bits, and foreign coins)
• Chain of your choice, any length, new or vintage
• Dremel drill (may be cordless)
• Attachments for Dremel drill: 1/16-inch bits, mandrel #402, heavy-duty cutoff wheels, sanding drum mandrel with extra sanding bands
• Safety goggles
• Thin scrap cardboard
• Several packages of 2-part gel epoxy (I use Loctite brand)
• Spring-loaded center punch
• Scissors
• Fine-tip Micron pen in black, .20 pigma, size 005
• Round-nosed pliers
• Flat-nosed pliers
• Flush-cut pliers (only if you already have a pair!)
• Small hammer
• Fine #0000 steel wool pads
• Heavy-duty book or paper awl
• Ruler and/or tape measure
• 2 small bar clamps
• Small vise (only if you already have one!)
