 Teacher:Camille Roskelley Join me and learn about my own special brand of fabric embellishment and fresh, simple quilting. Inspired by a clean, modern aesthetic, I will take you through some principles of working with fabric for today’s home. This is not your grandmother’s quilting style! Hear about the ins and outs of starting your own craft blog, pick up some photography tips, and see a show of some of my most popular quilts. I will also walk you through the steps of sewing either a fun, simple table topper or a set of three hot pads. This fabulous (and decaffeinated!) treat is made entirely from recycled, well-loved wool sweaters. Discover the amazing properties of wool and the felting/fulling process. Hand sewing will be used and beginners are welcome.  Teachers: Debbie Murray & Shea Fragoso Create this showstopping necklace and put your creativity on display! Using a tiny glass vial, paper wings, glitter, pearls, and charms, we will fashion a truly magical pendant that will be equally at home with your favorite little black dress or your jeans. This lovely necklace, a true conversation piece, is sure to become your very favorite! Silver ball chain and a tiny brass crown will complete the look. But that’s not all! Read More  Teacher: Ruth Rae Use this class to glide effortlessly through a number of essential techniques, including the much misunderstood coiling and weaving, en route to making a gorgeous piece of jewelry. Learn how to manipulate various gauges of wire to produce coils, loops, knotted head pins, and weaving as you frame assorted gemstones and pearls. I’ll also crack the code on wrapping briolettes, or top-drilled beads. Step into my world of embellishing knitwear with a needle and thread. The easy techniques you will learn will help add personality and panache to all your knitwear. And they are a whole lot of fun too! You’ll learn duplicate stitch, chain stitch, French knots, lazy daisies, spiderweb, running stitch, and more. Read More  Teacher: Ruth Rae In this class we will explore how to make a family keepsake album. You will learn how to combine your personal family photos (or found photos) along with small tokens, mementos, and paper ephemera to create pages that tell a story (personal or fictional, you decide) with or without the use of words. Fabric and paper manipulation, such as image transfer and heat altering, as well as hand and machine sewing on various surfaces will be covered in this class. Delight in the details as we learn about the ease and joys of needlepoint to create texture and meaning on your pages. Read More  Teacher: Wendy Addison Adorn your holiday tree with a topper that is a lovely blend of items with historical significance and your modern handiwork. I’ll provide everyone with a Victorian-style fairy dancer image inspired by prints made in the 1840s. Everyone will cut around their image, attach it to a mounting cone, and dress it with an abundance of vintage trims, fabric scraps, and embellishments. Read More  Teacher: Betz White Get a jump start on the holiday season as we turn old sweaters, felt balls, and trimmings into treasures! I’ll show you how to create fanciful felted wool ornaments, funky flower brooches, gift toppers, small gifts, and accessories. Hand sewing will be used and beginners are welcome. There will be enough time in this class for everyone to make several small projects suitable for gifting and holiday décor. I’ll provide a brief overview of handmade adhesives and mediums, show you the paints I use, and give you a peek at the gobs of inspiring vintage, super-cool fabrics and papers I love incorporating into my art. In this class, you’ll create a necklace that is positively dripping with vintage gypsy charms. We’ll be using a kit created especially for THE CREATIVE CONNECTION that contains everything you’ll need. Read More  Teacher: Jennifer Murphy This tiny clip ornament will bring a bit of sparkle to your holiday… We’ll be using vintage glass beads and bulbs, an old tree clip, tinsel, and pom poms to create this sweet nesting bird. Read More  Teacher: Halligan Norris of John Wind Signature/Maximal Art If you’re like me, you like to rummage and “flea market” through drawers and jewelry boxes looking for family heirlooms that you can “redefine.” In this class, you’ll learn how to give your old jewelry finds new life by making a unique necklace. Examples of items to bring to our class include keys to previous houses, old pet tags, lockets, fabric flowers from hats, special buttons from a grandmother’s blouse, brooches, chains, beads, earrings, and rings. I’ll have more trinkets and findings on hand for you to complete your necklace. Read More  Teacher: Jenni Bowlin Embossed, gilded, and embellished with artwork, the books of yesteryear were valued as much for their outer beauty as their inner wisdom. That’s reason enough for me to rescue a few from the flea market and turn them into works of art! In this class, you’ll create a journal or scrapbook using an old book for the front and back cover. Inside, the pages will be embellished with various Jenni Bowlin Studio products and vintage ephemera. Read More  Teacher: Kaari Meng The focus of this workshop is a small mourning heart, like those the French gypsies made using collected amulets found inside old pockets and church pews. Your hand-stitched heart, stuffed with sheep’s wool and embellished with vintage charms, will become a small good luck token to hang in your creative space — or use it as a pincushion for your small jewels. I’ll be teaching this class using a kit made especially for The Creative Connection! Read More  Teacher: Jenni Bowlin Get ready to craft a keepsake that’s a fun and funky showcase for your favorite photos — a true step up from the standard photo frame! Each garland will come alive using various sizes of vintage milk caps, backed with small photos and embellished with chandelier crystals, tin ice cream spoons, and other vintage goodies. For a personalized garland, bring at least 10 photos (and any other embellishment you’d like). Wallet-sized images work best as small areas will be punched from them. Buy a presewn pattern at the workshop, or sew your own and bring it with you to class.* Either way, you’ll learn the ins and outs of basic pattern making and vintage toy construction, including machine sewing on mohair, stuffing with excelsior, joining systems, and hand sewing techniques. Read More  Teacher: Kristin Nicholas Edge treatments are like the icing on a cake. They can turn a plain stockinette stitch pullover into one with lots of style. I use funky little edge treatments on almost all my signature knitwear designs, and in this class, I’ll show you how! Spend a few hours with me and you will learn about picot edging, corrugated ribbing, bobbled edges, mitered edges, lacey edges, lumpy edges, ruffles, points, fringe, cabled edges, and sculpted bell edges. Read More  Teacher: Laurie Meseroll Join me for a new look at paint. In this process workshop, you’ll explore a variety of painting techniques to give your work more depth and texture. We’ll be using earth-friendly formulas for paints and art-supply-store-alternative collage mediums and adhesives like lavender rice paste, casein glue, and blood orange gum arabic. The focus will be on layering rich collaged artworks using a variety of materials and techniques, including bold vinegar painting, egg tempera, and velvety casein paints. Each participant will walk away with a unique piece of folk art as well as a number of sample tags that may be the basis of future endeavors. Read More  Teacher: Dara DiMagno Jewelry lovers will delight in making larger versions, called “wall jewelry,” of the necklaces I design. Most finished wall pieces measure between 10 and 14 inches and are intended for display on the wall as pieces of art. We’ll be using vintage hardware as well as photos, baubles, chains, and other found elements. I’ll include my tips and techniques for working with metal and found objects.
